Overview

As a part of the course, Facilitating Creative Thinking this project was carried out. The purpose of this course was to create the conditions for creative thinking and innovation within an organization composed of a wide variety of professionals, most of whom are not familiar with design thinking.

Who

We recruited 5 senior members from Writer’s studio and Peer tutoring. We also recruited one student to represent the voice of the students.

Designing the workshop

It was important to carefully design our workshop so that we were able to understand the entire scope of the issue. We crafted the series of exercises in a way that was meant to extract the largest amount of insights from our participants.

Why did we choose Hopes,Fears & Dreams as our warm-up activity?

This activity helped us take the pulse of the team, to help us better understand what gets them motivated and what worries them. By revealing fears in a non-threatening way, the team discussed these potential barriers. It was a great exercise for teams with new members or a team preparing to take on a new challenge.

What did we learn from this activity?

Hopes and fears are so important for team members to understand. It’s part of what I call 360-degree Awareness. Sharing hopes and dreams is part of being prepared, and will help you anticipate the inevitable ebbs and flows of working together in pursuit of a goal.

Understanding what team members are excited about and worried about helped us tap into those motivations and tackle those fears.

Activity 2- What’s your Super Power?

Why did we choose the Super Power activity?

After identifying the team’s barriers, We told them to think of superpowers that would help them solve those barriers. When you remove mental barrier of constraints

What do we do with all these data points?

We put our secondary research and all the data and observations collected from the workshop onto yellow post-it notes

All the data that we gathered data and we organised them into groups based on their relationships.

We looked for the patterns and created a combination of the categories so as to form a whole.

And eventually, summed up the major insights and placed them in a hierarchy

Now that we have our insights, how do we use them to guide/empower our client?

We took things a step further and provided the team with Design directions that could help them come up with possible solutions

Here’s a little sneak peak of the app we created for them
